The book, based on a dissertation, examines art history from an unusual perspective: it briefly presents a new story of art history that was gradually created by Czech art historians after 1989, but the text focuses primarily on the individual means of constructing a new art historical canon. Although this term was not one of the most frequently used in professional debates for a long time, it represents a key means of communication with the public. The book examines three relevant areas in total. First, the permanent exhibitions that were opened by Czech, Moravian and Silesian museums of fine arts during the 1990s, then the concepts that the public had to understand the newly translated narrative of art history, and finally the question of how post-war Czech art was treated in the curriculum of primary schools, especially in history and art education.
