Dreams are not confined to times of uncertainty. Allowing the mind to enter an alternative reality by exploring imaginary architectural visions is the aim of Casa Immaginaria: Living in a Dream. This exhibition presents a survey of the contemporary phenomenon of fictional digital interiors, so-called ‘dreamscapes’, a design concept whose relevance has become greater not only because of the recent pandemic but also the uncertainty of war, its impacts on our everyday life and global security.
Curated by Prague-based Studio Okolo, the exhibition is a direct response to the Triennale theme ‘Unknown Unknowns’. In this survey, a new generation of designers speculates on our uncertain existence through visualizations of unreal worlds and imaginary environments. These dreamlike images of ‘places-yet-to-be’ took Instagram by storm between 2020 and 2021.
Large-scale images function as symbolic portals to the imaginative and unreal worlds created by the artists Alberto Carbonell, Alexis Christodoulou, Hugo Fournier, Stefano Giacomello, Bérénice Golmann-Pupponi, Hannes Lippert, Paul Milinski, Joe Patrick Mortell, André Reisinger, Victor Roussel, Charlotte Taylor and Six N. Five.
For historical context, dozens of examples of visionary and speculative projects from the past will also be featured. The visions of neoclassical architects, surrealist painters and contemporary digital artists help to reveal the history of our search for the unknown and dreamlike.
